What
is included and what is not? This is one of the most common questions you will hear from cruisers ready for their
first cruise or sailing on a new line for the first time. What is included and not included does vary a bit from
cruise line to cruise line, so it probably makes sense to have a clear picture before you leave for your cruise.
In general, your cruise will include:
- Your accomodation--your stateroom or suite
- Meals--you will have to opportunity to enjoy at least 3 meals per day
- Entertainment--Broadway style shows, comedians, musical acts, even movies are
generally included with your cruise fare.
- Activities such as trivia games, Karaoke and the like
- Children's programs, if available
- Use of the pools, fitness centers, hot-tubs
Again, in general you will need to pay extra for:
- Drinks, both alcoholic and soda
- Shore excursions
- Speciality restaurant dining
- Professional photographs
- Purchases in the shops
- Gambling, including Bingo
- Gratuities and service charges
- Spa and hair salon
- Internet access
- Ship-to-shore phone calls (including toll-free numbers)
- Onboard laundry and dry-cleaning services
Some cruise lines (usually luxury lines) will include some of the above items in their total cruise fare. Note,
though, that the cost of the cruise generally will more than cover the amenities offered.
